Go to Netscape 8.0.

It incorporates the best of Firefox with the only good parts of IE. It is seriously next generation firefox. I just downloaded it and within 20 miniutes I'm hooked.

BTW I've been on Firefox since it's first or second public version so... I think I beat 90% of you people.

Heres the Netscape 8.0 link and the story from BBC that told me about it.

I got one!

http://locate32.webhop.org/

Description: (ripped from same source)
"This program saves names of all files in your hard drives to file database. After that you can locate files. Very fast. This program works like updatedb and locate in Unix systems. Win32 based locating program also included. Program works with Windows 98/ME/NT4/2000/XP (and with Windows 95 if Internet Explorer 3 is installed)."

This program is really fast in locating files on your hard-drive (0.1-2 seconds, depending on the amount of results). Only indexes filenames so if you want to search through file-content, you're better off with copernic or google desktop search.

Found the site. http://talk.google.com

Looks like it's kinda crappy because it's on it's own network. You have to use GMail accounts to use it. AIM/Yahoo/MSN kind of have a monopoly happening in the messenger market.

Wow...I'm surprised nobody has put this one up yet.

avast!

Quite possibly the greatest anti-virus, and it's free for home use. You just have to go to the website and get a free key to activate the permanent account. I've had it for quite a few months and nothing bad has come from it.

www.adom.de An awesome DOS-based game quasi-based on D&D. The creator calls it "Postcard-ware" because he enjoys getting postcards from around the world, but it's most definitely freeware. Oh, and if you play it, expect to die. A lot. With permadeath.

www.pandora.com

It's a cool website my doc gave me to listen to(he's the cool old guy who likes rock and stuff) you type in a song or band you like and it finds bands that are of the same genre, and it lets you listen to them for free(he says, I've not tried it) he said it was free, so I figured, help some friends at good ol' GWG.com

Avast Antivirus is definitely the best antivirus I have ever used. My friend who owns his own computer business has turned me on to it, and I havent had an infection on my system since. If something does try to get in, avast immediately stops it. It auto updates as well, so you don't have to do any configuring to make it update. Avast FTW.

Hmm, I keep using the more expensive stuff... *ponders*

I think for freeware office appliances, OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org) is the best Alternative-Office programs. Although you will have to rebuild the Databases, the program supports other documents and formats that make up a good program for... er... nothing.

Combined Community Codec Pack
Put together by a bunch of the best anime fansubbing groups around, this baby can play anything. Using ffdshow to play most things, it actually gives even better performance than the SSE-optimized ffdshow releases.

Apache web server
Not everybody needs this, or even want it, but for those who do, it's the best around.

TeamSpeak Overlay
A simpy great addition to TeamSpeak, showing in-game who is currently talking.

µTorrent
THE bittorrent-client. The only one who even took my attention away from Azureus, since it works in pretty much the same way, but without the need for java, this baby is purely written in C++, and therefore is less performance-needy, but has all the great features of Azureus.

GMail notifier
Uhhm, yeah. If you need it, you will know.

GWFreaks
No better way of keeping track of builds/skills/accounts. What is unlocked, what isn't, creating a character build, or team build, searching what skills are available from where, and what skills are available in a specific area. Simply great.

iTunes
The best media-player around, works wonders in conjunction with an iPod.

Zeckensack's Glide Wrapper
Helps you play those old classics that require a Glide card (voodoo) to run.

Dos-Box
Dos-emulator. Use to play very old games.

World Community Grid
A great piece of software that doesn't specifically benefit you in any way, but it uses your computer resources to help analyze problems related to humanity. Currently they're focusing on AIDS and genetics. You can choose if you want it to run all the time, or as a screensaver only, and it runs on both windows and linux. Works the same way [email protected] does, except focusing on humanity instead of space.

edit: PSPad
Almost forgot, one of the best editors around.

I'm just saying as a web designer the job wouldn't be nearly as frustrating if IE were to just... dissappear. You should honestly consider for what reason you're using it, cause there are tons of better choises out there. Heck even lynx is better. Just my opinion though.

Try visiting http://browsehappy.com/ and tell me IE is better.

I need freeware that will delete a Trojan/Backdoor virus. I currently have Ad-Ware and Search and Destry for spybots. I have run both but i have a Trojan virus called Head24.exe. If you ever see it on your operating system DELETE IT RIGHT AWAY! It causes your internet to go down. For a detailed version of what happened look here. http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=53179
If you have some freeware that would get rid of it please tell me. I also have used Symantec but it cant find it either. I need HELP!

Don't know if anyone already suggested these or not but:

ProcessGuard (Free) - This program forces you to accept the running of any executable file on your system. You can choose to let PG always allow it or only allow it the one time.
Note: The free version is good, but the pay for version is better; it can stop rootkit installations, DLL injections, keyloggers, etc. PG Pay for version

MotherBoard Monitor 5 - Wonderful program that monitors system temperatures on any sensor your motherboard is equipped with. You can set it up to give off high temperature alarms and even shut down your system to protect from overheating. It also monitors voltages in the core, on both the +/-5V rails, on the +3.3V rail, and on the +/-12V rails as well as monitoring several fan RPM's. A must for overclockers.

CPU-Z - Basic utility program that identifies your processors stats including process type used to manufacture, voltage, core speed, etc. Can also give you information about your motherboard and RAM as detailed as telling you exactly which week the RAM was manufactured in. Also gives all timings for your RAM. Useful program if you need to find out specific information about one of those things
